About
campusclash.lol is a campus league where 1,543 American campuses compete in a single live table. Voting is free and needs no account; the "Campus Baron" sponsorship slot on each campus card changes hands by open bidding.
This is not an academic ranking
A position here measures nothing about a university's teaching quality, research output or graduate outcomes. It shows how many people voted for that campus, and nothing else. A campus near the top has a big and active student crowd — that is the whole claim.
Where the data comes from
The campus list is derived from IPEDS, the U.S. Department of Education's Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System — names, cities, states, control and enrollment all come from the 2023 release. Every four-year, degree-granting institution in the fifty states and DC is here — all 1,543 of them, from the largest state flagship to colleges of a few hundred students. Nothing is picked by hand, and nothing is left out for being small.
Four groups are deliberately left out: institutions with no physical campus (large online providers, whose enrollment would otherwise put them at the top of a contest about campuses), community colleges, the administrative units universities file their evening and distance programmes under (they are reported as separate institutions but nobody attends them), and the territories, which the state map has no shape to draw.
How the standings are calculated
Votes are kept in sharded counters rather than a single one, so thousands of simultaneous votes never queue behind each other. The shards are summed once a minute and the table updates. Ties are broken alphabetically.
